Kajian ini dijalankan untuk merawat air bawah tanah di Kediaman Anak-anak Yatim & Miskin Nur Kasih, Taiping, Perak yang mengandungi unsur besi (Fe) dan mangan (Mn) yang tinggi. Kandungan unsur besi (Fe) dan mangan (Mn) akan ditentukan dan dibandingkan dengan standard kualiti air di Malaysia. Sample air yang diambil akan dirawat dengan menggunakan kaedah peresapan pengudaraan yang dilakukan di dalam makmal alam sekitar. Kuantiti oksigen terlarut dalam air juga akan diambil sebelum, semasa dan selepas eksperimen ini dijalankan dengan menggunakan YSI Multi-parameter. Rawatan dilakukan dengan beberapa percubaan masa iaitu 15, 30, 45 dan 60 minit untuk tempoh masa yang sesuai. Semasa eksperimen ini dijalankan larutan klorine yang bertindak sebagai ejen pengoksidaan ditambah didalam sample air untuk mempercepatkan proses pengoksidaan. Kaedah ini juga menggunakan dua peresap udara yang bersaiz halus dan kasar bagi memastikan keberkesanan untuk mengurangkan kandungan besi (Fe) dan mangan (Mn). Kemudian air dirawat akan ditapis menggunakan penapis kasar mendatar dimana batu kapur bersaiz halus kurang daripada 2 mm digunakan sebagai bahan penapisan. Berdasarkan keputusan itu, penyingkiran besi dan mangan meningkat dari minit 15 ke minit 60 dalam julat 84 % kepada 96.92 % untuk besi dan 50 % kepada 90 % untuk mangan. Kesimpulannya, prestasi masa yang lebih panjang menghasilkan pengurangan kandungan besi dan mangan lebih banyak di mana saiz peresap yang lebih halus peresap bertindak lebih cekap daripada peresap saiz kasar. Projek ini juga mempunyai beberapa kelebihan yang dijangka memberi impak ekonomi dalam teknologi rawatan air, meningkatkan dan mengembangkan pengetahuan penggunaan kaedah 'Peresap Pengudaraan' seterusnya menyelesaikan masalah kepenggunaan seperti perubahan warna dan rasa air, kesan karat pada pakaian, masalah perpaipan dan apa jua yang bersentuh dengannya. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ This study was conducted to treat groundwater from ‘Kediaman Anak-anak Yatim & Miskin Nur Kasih, Taiping, Perak’ which contains high amount of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn). The iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) are determined and compared with water quality standards in Malaysia. Water sample taken will be treated by using air diffuser aeration method and was performed in the Environmental Engineering Laboratory. The quantity of dissolved oxygen in the water will also be taken using YSI Multi-Parameter Probe before, during and after the experiment was carried out. Treatment was done with some trial time of 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes to see the appropriate time period. During the experiment, chlorine acting as oxidation agent is added in the sample treated water to accelerate the process of oxidation in air. In this method also two air diffusers fine size and coarse size were used to ensure the effectiveness of this method to reduce the content of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn). Then the treated water will be filtered using horizontal roughing filter where the limestone with fine size less than 2 mm was used as a filtering media. Based on the results, the removal of iron and manganese increased from 15 minutes to 60 minutes in the range 83.84% to 96.92% for iron and 50% to 90% for manganese. As conclusion, the longer performance time will result in more reduction of iron and manganese which the finer size of diffuser is more efficient than coarse size diffuser. This project has some benefits that expected to contribute an economic significant for water treatment technology, enhance and expanding the knowledge in the application of ‘Air Diffuser Aeration’ and solve human consumptive problems such as discoloration and taste of the water, staining of laundry and plumbing fixtures or anything that in contact.
