Preparation of rubber seed coat based activated carbon by microwave induced koh activation and its application in malachite green and remazol brilliant violet-5r adsorption / Siti Hajaratul Akma Abdul Hadi
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ This study presents the preparation of rubber seed coat based activated carbon (RSCAC) via microwave irradiation assisted KOH activation for adsorption of malachite green (MG) and remazol brilliant violet-5R (RBV) in aqueous solution. RSCAC prepared was high surface area (805.31m2/g) and exhibit heterogeneous mesoporous (average pore diameter of 2.58nm) type of pore structures. The effects of adsorbate initial concentration (100-500 mg/L), contact time (0-24 h) and solution temperature (30-60oC) were evaluated through batch adsorption test. The MG and RBV dyes uptake increased with increased in initial dye concentration and contact time. For adsorption of both dyes onto RSCAC, the equilibrium data were favorably described by Freundlich isotherm, while adsorption kinetics was best fitted to the pseudo-first-order model. The maximum uptake capacity of 80.55% for MG and 76.85% for RBV by RSCAC was achieved. The findings support the feasibility of rubber seed coat as an attractive AC’s precursor dye removal.
