Komunikasi masa nyata ialah sejenis komunikasi yang berlaku dengan kependaman minimum atau tanpa sebarang kelambatan. Ia dapat dikategori kepada dua jenis: komunikasi masa nyata lembut dan komunikasi masa nyata keras. Komunikasi masa nyata penting dalam sesetengah aplikasi yang memerlukan maklumat untuk disampaikan dari sumber ke destinasi dalam masa yang ditentukan. Satu Ethernet yang standard menggunakan CSMA/CD protocol dalam Kawalan Akses Media-nya untuk mengawal transmisi maklumat antara stesen yang berkongsi satu saluran yang sama. Kawalan Akses Media juga mngandungi algorithma backoff yang berfungsi untuk menjadualkan transmisi bagi paket yang sama apabila berlakunya perlanggaran. Dalam projek ini, satu model untuk rangkaian Ethernet akan direka dan dibina untuk menjalankan simulasi. Algorithma backoff yang berbeza seperti BEB, Linear, PLEB dan FEB akan direalisasikan ke dalam model tersebut untuk menganalisiskan prestasi mereka. Prestasi tersebut akan bertumpu pada kriteria seperti kelambatan dan bilangan perlanggaran kerana kriteria-kriteria ini penting dalam pengukuran kominikasi masa nyata. Antara perisian yang dilakukan untuk menjalankan simulasi ialah Matlab, Simulink dan Stateflow. Keputusan menunjukkan bahawa jenis algorithma backoff yang digunakan membawa kesan yang besar kepada prestasi rangkaian dari segi kelambatan. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Real-time communication (RTC) is a type of transmission that occur with minimum latency or delay. It can be categorized into two types: soft RTC and hard RTC. RTC is important in certain applications that required the data to be delivered from source to destination within a specific period of time. Meanwhile, a standard Ethernet implements carrier sense multiple access with collision detection (CSMA/CD) as the media access control (MAC) protocol to govern and control the data transmission between stations in a shared medium. The MAC protocol also contains the backoff algorithm that responsible for rescheduling the transmission of a packet after a collision happens. In this project, an embedded Ethernet network model with different number of nodes and a shared channel is designed and constructed. Different backoff algorithms such as Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB), Linear, Pessimistic Linear Exponential Backoff (PLEB) and Fibonacci Backoff (FEB) are applied to the network model to study and analyze their performances. The performance criteria such as delay of each packet and the number of packets delivered are evaluated. Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow are used as the main software for simulation. The final results showed that the types of backoff algorithms used have an enormous effect on the network performance in term of delay.
