Metered taxi is one of the modes of public transportation used at Pulau Pinang. Nowadays, the usage of metered taxi has been labeled as not successful use in Pulau Pinang although it was made compulsory on 1 August 2007. The objective of this research is to study the current metered taxi service, to determine whether this service can sustain itself in the future and to identify the problems with this service.
For this research, primary and secondary data have been used. Primary data are obtained by distributing questionnaires and through interview. The result from this research shows that this service is not very popular and is facing decreasing number of passenger. The suggestion to upgrade the current metered taxi service should be considered carefully to make sure it is become popular among passenger. Without this suggestion, the metered taxi service is not expected to survive.
