This Published Document gives guidance concerning graphical symbols used on equipment. Such equipment ranges from machine tools to be found at work to domestic products to be found in the home. In addition guidance is given on public information symbols and symbols used on safety and fire safety signs. The document is applicable to symbols for the above used in manuals, brochures or timetables, etc. but it explicitly excludes symbols used on drawings or diagrams. For example, it excludes symbols used in technical product documentation, whether computer generated or drawn manually. The guide does not include alphanumeric symbols except when they form an essential element of an otherwise graphic set of signs or symbols.
