Sampling is done for monitoring purposes, as well as for research. There are many instances where a packaging sample is a benefit. BS EN 27023 specifies a method of obtaining a representative sample of empty sacks for testing. BS EN 27023 is applicable when sampling in order to assess the average quality of a consignment of empty sacks.
The principle consists of selection at random of a prescribed number of sacks from the lot following a two-stage procedure. Tables are given to determine the number of selected units and sacks. The method applies to all types of empty sacks.
Note: BS EN 27023 is not suited to sampling for production control.

In the packaging industry, a sampling plan is a method for deciding whether to accept or reject packaging sacks. The sampling plan sets out what will be tested, when and how it will be tested, and the measurements for determining whether the sample that is being tested will be accepted or rejected.
BS EN 27023 guides you with the selection of sacks to be taken from the lot. The sacks selected are kept and handled so that there is no permanent change in their properties before testing. BS EN 27023 also provides you with marking guidance on each sack that has been selected and adequate identification marks to prove its origin. Following EN 27023 guidelines help to ensure proper fit and quality level design of sacks.
