Proses pembandaran yang berlaku di negara kita telah mendatangkan banyak kesan negatif. Situasi ini berlaku di Sungai Tupai. Proses pembandaran sepanjang Sungai Tupai telah menganggu kestabilan sungai. Kadar penghakisan tebing dan pemendapan yang tinggi dapat diperhati di sepanjang sungai. Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran Daerah Larut Matang dan Selama telah menjalankan kerja-kerja pemuliharaan, tetapi situasi ini masih timbul. Analisis kestabilan sungai telah dijalankan sepanjang Sungai Tupai menggunakan model matematik FLUVIAL-12. Model FLUVIAL-12 ini sebenarnya telah digunakan secara meluas dalam pelbagai jenis kajian tentang kestabilan sungai sebelum ini. Model ini telah dioperasikan dengan menggunakan tiga persamaan mendapan untuk mengetahui persamaan yang paling sesuai dengan Sungai Tupai. Antara tiga persamaan yang digunakan itu ialah persamaan Yang, persamaan mendapan Graf, dan persamaan mendapan Engelund-Hansen. Keputusan yang diperolehi daripada model FLUVIAL-12 yang menggunakan tiga persamaan mendapan tersebut telah disahkan di tempat kajian. Berdasarkan pada tempat kajian, persamaan Yang telah didapati sangat bersesuaian dengan Sungai Tupai. Model FLUVIAL-12 dapat meneka tempat berlakunya pemendapan dan hakisan di sepanjang Sungai Tupai dengan menggunakan persamaan Yang. Justeru, boleh dikatakan bahawa model FLUVIAL-12 boleh digunakan sebagai peramal untuk analisis kestabilan Sungai Tupai bagi pemuliharan sungai pada masa hadapan. ___________________________________________________________________________________ The rapid urbanization that takes place in our country had caused many side effects. This was the case to Tupai River. The urbanization along the Tupai River had affected the river stability. High rate of bank erosion and sedimentation problem can be observed along the river. The Department of Irrigation and Drainage of Larut Matang and Selama District did carry out the bank protection work, but the problem persists. Stability analysis was conducted along the Tupai River using FLUVIAL-12 mathematical model. The FLUVIAL-12 model had been widely used in various river stability studies previously. The model was run using three sediment transport equations to determine which transport equation better suits the Tupai River. The Yang unit stream power equation, Graf’s sediment transport equation and Engelund-Hansen sediment equation were the three equations used for the modelling. The output results by the FLUVIAL-12 model ran by using the three sediment transport equations were further verified at the actual project site. It was found that the Yang unit stream power equation suits well for the Tupai River based on the site condition. The FLUVIAL-12 model was able to predict the erosion and sedimentation along the Tupai River accurately using the Yang unit stream power equation. Thus, it can be said that the FLUVIAL-12 model can be used as a predictive tool to analyze the stability of Tupai River for the future river rehabilitation works.
