aliran molar acrolein. Pengoptimuman itu mampu memberi nilai tertinggi pada
0.00020136 kmol /jam iaitu 92.7 % apabila suhu optimum dan tekanan adalah 235 °C
dan 5 bar.

Glycerol is produced as byproduct of biodiesel process with increasing biodiesel
production, glycerol has become more economically interesting to use as a starting
material in various processes. Glycerol dehydration process has been simulated,
analyzed and optimized with the aid of Aspen Plus version 8.0. Glycerol dehydration
model was developed and simulated in Aspen Plus. Glycerol is fed to the PFR model at
0.20 kg/hr. The mass fraction of feed solution is 0.2. Temperature and pressure of feed
streams are set as 235 °C and 1 bar respectively. PFR model in the aspen simulation
represent the tubular reactor in the experimental module and the parameters are set
accordingly. Length of the reactor is 13 cm and the diameter of the tube is 1 cm. The
results obtained revealed that the simulation results completely follow the trend of the
experimental results from literature in both glycerol conversion and acrolein selectivity.
Furthermore sensitivity analysis was performed in Aspen Plus with three operating
parameters. The optimum values obtained in sensitivity analysis is 235 °C and 5 bar. In
optimization section, the objective function is to maximize the molar flow rate of
acrolein. The optimization was able to give highest optimized value at 0.00020136
kmol/hr which is 92.7 % when the optimum temperature and pressure were 235 °C and
5 bar.
