Removal OF Pb (II) ions from aqueous solution by adsorption on peels of citrus microcarpa (kasturi lime peels)

Removal OF Pb (II) ions from aqueous solution by adsorption on peels of citrus microcarpa (kasturi lime peels) / Muadz Misla
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The potential use of waste biosorbent material obtained from Kasturi lime peels for the removal of Pb(II) ions from aqueous solutions was investigated by considering equilibrium, kinetic and characterization aspects. The biosorption showed an optimum value of removal efficiency at pH equal to 6.0. An increase in biosorbent dosage up to 10 (g/L) gives a highest value of removal efficiency at 63.93%. An initial concentration at 300 (mg/L), it gives the highest removal efficiency at 89.10%. Biosorption kinetic modeling shows the data fitted the pseudo second order kinetic model as the R2 is equal to 0.9998 and the equilibrium data fitted to the Langmuir isotherm compared with Freundlich Isotherm because the value R2 for Langmuir is 0.9125 and Freundlich is 0.8773. The Pb(II) ion-biomaterial interactions was evaluated by FTIR analysis and results shows that presence of OH functional groups on a surfaces of biosorbent is involvd in the biosorption of Pb(II) ions. Results of this study showed the suggested biosorbent could be an effective for the removal of Pb(II) ions from aqueous solution.
