Projek ini membincangkan tentang penggunaan reka bentuk eksperimen (DOE) untuk menentukan faktor-faktor yang akan mempengaruhi prestasi reka bentuk mikrostrip tirus yang beroperasi pada frekuensi 10 GHz. Proses DOE juga telah mendapati bahawa nilai panjang dan lebar tirus yang memberikan peralihan yang terbaik adalah masing-masing pada nilai 15.300 mm dan 4.664 mm. Kemudian, menggunakan nilai yang diperoleh, mikrostrip tirus dan substrat bersepadu gelombang (SIW) direka bentuk menggunakan perisian Ansoft HFSS. Penentuan parameter-parameter SIW seperti diameter lubang, jarak antara lubang, lebar dan panjang SIW dilakukan sebelum proses mereka bentuk. Terdapat dua jenis tirus yang diperkenalkan dalam projek ini iaitu mikrostrip tirus biasa dan jalur lebar tirus baru ataupun dikenali sebagai jalur lebar taper-via. Jalur lebar taper-via mencadangkan penambahan dua lubang pada mikrostrip tirus biasa. Selepas memperoleh keputusan yang memuaskan, reka bentuk simulasi telah direka semula diatas papan litar bercetak (PCB). Kedua-dua jenis tirus dibandingkan dan dibincangkan secara mendalam. Hasil uji kaji untuk mikrostrip tirus biasa adalah -10.62 dB dan -7.96 dB dan hasil simulasi adalah -13.6239 dB dan -0.738 dB. Manakala, hasil uji kaji untuk jalur lebar tirus baru adalah -22.64 dB dan -4.29 dB dan hasil simulasi adalah -29.2438 dB dan -0.4977 dB untuk S11 dan S21. Peratusan perbezaan antara mikrostrip tirus biasa dengan jalur lebar tirus baru adalah kira-kira 53.4% untuk S11 dan 48.2% untuk S21. Hasil daripada perbandingan ini menunjukkan bahawa taper-via mempunyai prestasi yang terbaik di frekuensi operasi. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ This project describes the implementation of Design of Experiment (DOE) in determining the factors that will affect the microstrip taper at the operating frequency of 10 GHz. It is found that the length of taper is 15.3 mm and the width is 4.664 mm which gives the best transition of S11 and S21. After that, the values were used to design the taper and Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) using Ansoft HFSS. Determination of the SIW parameters, such as diameter of via, the spacing, width of SIW and the length of SIW were done before the designing process. There are two types of taper introduced in this project that is the standard microstrip taper and the new wideband taper called taper-via transition. The taper-via transition proposed additional of two via to the standard microstrip taper. After obtaining satisfying results for both tapers, the simulated design was fabricated on Printed Circuit Board (PCB). Both simulation and experimental results were compared and discussed. The experimental results for standard microstrip taper are -10.62 dB and -7.96 dB and simulated results are -13.6239 dB and -0.738 dB for S11 and S21 respectively at 9.8 GHz. While, the experimental results for taper-via wideband are -22.64 dB and -4.29 dB and simulated results are -29.2438 dB and -0.4977 dB for S11 and S21 respectively at 10 GHz. The percentage difference between the microstrip taper and the taper-via transition is about 53.4% for S11 and 48.2% for S21. This shows that the taper-via wideband have a better performance at the operating frequency.
