Effect of steam curing temperature on mechanical strength of concrete containg wood waste ash

Effect of steam curing temperature on mechanical strength of concrete containg wood waste ash / Muhammad Afiq Hasanuddin
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The study presents the mechanical strength of the concrete containing wood waste ash (WWA) under both steam curing and moist curing. Chemical analysis of the WWA and slump test of the fresh conducted were conducted to determine the suitability of the materials for concrete marking. The concrete is steam cured at 65˚C and 85˚C for 7 days and 28 days and percentage replacement level of 0%, 10%, and 20% of cement by WWA were used. 100mm×100mm cubes, 100mm×200mm cylinder and 100mm×100mm×500mm prism sample were cast, cured and tested at 7 and 28 days to determine their compressive strength, flexural and tensile splitting strength. The mechanical strength parameters covered in this study are compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile splitting strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV). Test result indicates that the wood ash is slightly pozzolanic, water demand increases as the ash content increases. The compressive, flexural, and the tensile splitting strengths of WWA concrete are generally less than those of the control concrete for the ages investigated and the strength decreases with an increase in WWA content with the lowest values obtained at 20% replacement level of WWA. The replacement of 10% WWA by weight of cement appears to be the optimum amount that can produce structural grade concrete with acceptable strength properties. The steam cured concrete mechanical strength is generally less compared to the normal curing concrete.
