Kestabilan struktur konkrit akan menurun di sebabkan berbagai foktor setelah meningkatnya jangka hayat struktur berkenaan. Kesan-kesan yang menujukkan proses ini berlaku adalah pembentukan liang di bahagian permukaan konkrit, retakan halus dan retakan kasar. Teknik Acoustic Emission (AE) merupakan salah satu teknik yang dinamik daripada beberapa Teknik Tanpa Musnah kerana teknik AE dapat mengesan kecacatan itu secara langsung dari kawasan yang mengalami kecacatan. Setiap kecacatan dapat dikesan dan dinilai secara berasingan oleh AE. Dalam analisis ini, teknik AE digunakan untuk menganalisis keadaan struktur rasuk yang terletak di Makmal Konkrit, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan AE untuk menentukan dan mengenalpasti lokasi keretakan yang berlaku pada rasuk konkrit yang disyaki mengalami kerosakan. Dalam hal ini, kelajuan gelombang digunakan sebagai parameter untuk menilai secara terperinci kawasan yang telah dikenal pasti oleh AE. Perisian komputer AEwin digunakan untuk menganalisa data yang diperolehi semasa kajian. Pengamatan visual juga dijalankan untuk membandingkan keputusan yang diperolehi daripada AE. Keputusan-keputusan yang diperolehi membuktikan keupayaan AE dalam mengenal pasti, menentukan dan memantau retakan pada rasuk konkrit yang terletak di makmal konkrit itu. ___________________________________________________________________________________ In the lifetime of concrete structure, the performance and the stability of the concrete structure will degrade due to the effect of various factors. This process usually accompanies with the development of pores, micro cracks and cracks in the concrete structure. Acoustic emission technique (AE) is a dynamic nondestructive testing technique (NDT) because the signal is coming directly from the damage area. Each defect produced its own emission which can be evaluated by using acoustic emission technique. In this analysis, the AE technique is used to analyze the structural condition of a concrete beam located at Concrete Laboratory, Universiti Sains Malaysia. The objective of this research is to investigate the capability of AE to locate and identify the location of the cracks in the concrete beam suspected undergoing active cracks. In this case, wave propagation velocity was used as a means to evaluate, in more detail, the region indicated by the AE analysis. AEwin software was used to analyse the data collected during the monitoring. Visual observation was done in order to compare the result obtain from the AE system. The results prove that AE technique has the ability to detect, locate and monitor the crack at the concrete beam in concrete lab.
