Solar adalah satu tenaga yang boleh dipembaharui di mana ia percuma dan bersih di mana impak untuk persekitaran diabaikan. Sistem elektrik solar sesuai untuk digantikan dengan bekalan tenaga konvensional. Dalam sistem elektrik solar, ia mempunyai empat peralatan penting seperti solar panel, bateri, pengawal cas dan alat penyongsang. Kajian ini dijalankan di Nibong Tebal, Pulau Pinang yang berada di latitud 5.1667 ° utara dan 100.48333° selatan. Sinaran solar dan suhu memainkan peranan yang penting untuk merekabentuk sistem Fotovoltan. Dalam kajian ini, data untuk sinaran solar dan suhu telah diambil dari Jabatan Meteorological Malaysia. Data untuk sinaran solar suhu juga diambil dari Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Elektrik dan Elektronik (PPKEE), Universiti Sains Malaysia. Ujikaji terhadap data telah dijalankan untuk memahami corak dalam setiap jam bagi sinaran solar dan suhu untuk mengesyorkan nilai yang sesuai untuk digunakan dalam sistem PV di PPKEE. Di PPKEE, nilai purata untuk sinaran solar ialah 273.064 W/m2 dan untuk suhu 28.14595 C. Data untuk tenaga yang digunakan didalam PPKEE telah diambil di Pusat Pembamgunan Universiti Sains Malaysia. Nilai purata tenaga yang digunakan dari PPKEE ialah 148766.13 kWj/bulan manakala 4.95887 MWj/hari. Data ini juga digunakan untuk merekabentuk system PV di PPKEE. Bagi mendapatkan kuasa pada aras penuh, solar panel mestilah memenuhi syarat Standard Test Condition (STC) dimana 1000 W/m2 untuk sinaran solar dan suhu 25 C. Spesifikasi bagi peralatan sistem elektrik solar telah dipilih dan mengikut saiz yang betul untuk skema solar. Dalam kajian ini didapati bahawa, terdapat potensi untuk menggunakan tenaga solar bagi membekalkan kuasa di PPKEE. Walau bagaimanapun, untuk merekabentuk system PV dengan sesuai, sinaran solar dan suhu mesti digunakan sepenuhnya di PPKEE. Dalam kajian in mengesyorkan, solar panel CHSM6612P 300Wp digunakan untuk menjana kuasa yang mencapai tenaga yang yang dituntut dari PPKEE. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Solar is one form of renewable energy which is cost-free and clean whereby environment impact are negligible. Solar electric system is suitable to replace the conventional energy supply. In solar electric system, the four important equipment that need to be considered are solar panel, battery, charge controller and inverter. This study is conducted at Nibong Tebal, Penang which is located at latitude 5.1667° north and 100.4833° east. Solar irradiation and temperature played an important role in the design of Photovoltaic (PV) panel. In this study, data solar irradiation and temperature for Penang was obtained from Malaysia Meteorological Department. Data were also collected from the Photovoltaic system located at the top roof of School of Electric and Electronic (SEEE), Universiti Sains Malaysia. The data was analyzed to understand the behaviour of hourly solar irradiance and to recommend the suitable value of daily solar irradiation for use in PV system for School of Electric and Electronic. At SEEE, the average of daily of solar irradiation is 273.064 W/m2 and temperature of 28.14595 C. Data for energy usage in School of Electric and Electronic was obtained from Department of Development Universiti Sains Malaysia. The average monthly energy usage is 148766.13 kWh/month while 4.95887 MWh/days. It is then used to design the Photovoltaic for SEEE. It is recommended that to obtain the maximum power from solar panels, the daily solar irradiance and temperature must follow the Standard Test Condition (STC) which is 1000 W/m2 for solar irradiation and temperature of 25 C. The specification of solar electric equipment have been chosen to design and a proper sizing for solar scheme system. It is found that there is potentials for using solar energy to generate power at SEEE. However there is a need for designing an appropriate Photovoltaic system to fully utilise the temperature and solar irradiance at SEEE. The study recommends solar panel CHSM6612P 300Wp to generate power to meet the demand for energy at SEEE.
