Penggunaan metanol adalah luas di beberapa industri dan merupakan bahan kimia yang penting berdasarkan permintaan yang tinggi. Simulasi penghasilan metanol telah dilakukan menggunakan Aspen Plus untuk mengkaji tingkah laku proses. Lima proses terlibat dalam loji penghasilan metanol daripada batu arang ialah gasifikasi batu arang, penyingkiran gas asid dan pemulihan sulfur, tindak balas peralihan air-gas, sintesis metanol dan penulenan metanol . Tetapi dalam tesis ini simulasi hanya akan dibuat ke atas dua proses sahaja. Process pertama adalah tindak balas peralihan air-gas di mana bertanggungjawab dalam menghasilkan jumlah hidrogen gas yang diperlukan disebabkan jumlah karbon yang banyak. Dalam proses ini, suhu yang sesuai untuk menghasilkan jumlah gas hidrogen yang diperlukan adalah 330oC. Proses kedua yang akan disimulasikan menggunakan Aspen ialah sintesis metanol. Dalam tesis ini, proses sintesis metanol dibahagikan kepada dua keadaan. Keadaan pertama adalah tanpa aliran kitar semula(memproses untuk digunakan semula)dan kedua dengan aliran kitar semula. Di sini, kajian tertumpu untuk membandingkan kedua-dua situasi tersebut dan daripada keputusan, banyak metanol dihasilkan jika proses mempunyai aliran kitar semula. Tetapi, keburukan daripada aliran kitar semula ialah menggunakan banyak peralatan dan banyak tenaga digunakan. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Methanol is widely used in several industry and one of the most important chemical due to high demand. Simulation of methanol production was done by using Aspen Plus in order to study the behavior of the process. There were five processes involved in coal-to-methanol production plant which is coal gasification, acid gas removal and sulfur recovery, water-gas shift reaction, methanol synthesis and methanol purification. But this thesis only simulated two processes. First process was water-gas shift reaction which is responsible to produce desired value of hydrogen due to high amount of carbon. In this process, suitable temperature to produce desired value of hydrogen gas is 330oC. Second process simulated using Aspen was methanol synthesis. In this thesis, methanol synthesis process was divided into two condition. First condition was simulated without recycle stream and second one with recycle stream. Here, the study focus the comparison between these two situation and from the result, more methanol produced if there is recycle stream. But the disadvantage of recycle stream is used more equipment and more energy is consumed.
