Touch-Less Palm Print Biometric System On Android Operating System_Lau Wei Cheang_E3_2013_NI
Kini, sistem biometrik cap tapak tangan kebanyakannya adalah berasaskan sistem biometrik sentuhan and tetap. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Nowadays, most of the palm print biometric systems are touch based and fixed. Touch based biometric system introduces many disadvantages such as issues in hygiene, spreading of disease, privacy and security. Besides that, the fixed biometric system is not portable and inconvenient. To alleviate these problems, this project proposes a touch-less palm print mobile biometric system which is portable by using Android based smart phone. Android operating system (OS) is chosen because it is a popular open source OS whereby developers can customize the OS and create their own application (app). An Android app is developed for the smart phone to acquire the palm print image, send the image to the server for verification and receive the result back from the server through internet. A computer server is used in this project to solve the limitation of memory and processing power of the smart phone. From the experimental results, the authentication accuracies of the proposed system are 99.4591%, 98.9904% and 98.891% for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 inch (Tab 2), Samsung Galaxy S3 (S3) and HTC One X (One X) respectively. The average system processing times for three devices are 14.696s, 15.068s and 19.128s for Tab 2, S3 and One X respectively. This touch-less palm print mobile biometric system can be implemented in situation where the portability is very crucial, such as in security system where a guard can authenticate the suspicious people inside the restricted area.
