BS EN 50144-2-7:1996 is another British Standard that specifies the safety requirements for railway rolling stock electrical equipment, but with a focus on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) issues.
The standard sets out requirements for the electromagnetic emissions and immunity of electrical equipment used in railway rolling stock, to ensure that the equipment does not cause interference with other equipment or systems and that it is not affected by external electromagnetic sources. The standard covers all aspects of the electrical equipment, including design, manufacture, installation, operation, and maintenance.
The standard specifies limits for electromagnetic emissions from the equipment, as well as requirements for testing the equipment's immunity to external electromagnetic sources. It also includes requirements for electromagnetic shielding and grounding of the equipment.
Overall, the standard is designed to ensure that railway rolling stock electrical equipment is compatible with other equipment and systems, and that it does not cause or suffer from interference due to electromagnetic sources. This is important for the safe and reliable operation of railway systems, as well as for the protection of other electronic equipment and systems that may be affected by electromagnetic interference.
