Energy harvesting has always been a major aspect to a better living quality of humans. The concern of the depletion of non-renewable energy sources will come true in only decades of time. Researchers are relentlessly finding alternative energy to substitute the diminishing sources. Raindrop energy is one of them. This field of study is a relatively new territory. By utilizing piezoelectric and exposing it directly to the raindrops, the mechanical energy received from the droplets will be converted to electrical energy. The goal of this project is to transform the signals into usable energy that can operate electronic devices. The project starts by understanding the fundamental elements of an energy harvesting circuit and the different configurations of piezoelectric. The circuit is designed with LTC3588 integrated chip as the core component. Then, the circuit is simulated with LTspice, by using virtual power source and simulated piezoelectric output. After that, the circuit is tested with audio generator and piezoelectric. Finally the system is exposed to the rain for validation analysis. Based on the experimental results, the system managed to generate energy from the raindrops. However, the system is unable to store the generated energy efficiently. The system limitation as an energy harvester roots from the piezoelectric material used. It generates only a small power output in the range of 8 µW to 10 µW. The LDT0 Solid State Sensor is recorded to have a maximum power output of 8.12 µW, while the Mini Sense 100 Sensor provides a maximum power output of 9.30 µW. Based on the report findings, results showed that the raindrops can be a potential energy source. Although it produced a small amount of energy, further research which includes the study on piezoelectric material is needed to optimize the overall energy harvesting process.
