Pertumbuhan pembangunan, aktiviti harian oleh masyarakat dan juga bunyi dari pengangkutan darat, udara serta air boleh menyumbang kepada masalah pencemaran bunyi kepada masyarakat. Sumber bunyi pesawat di sekitar kawasan Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia, Butterworth telah menyebabkan masalah utama kepada kesihatan manusia. Oleh itu, kajian ini memberi tumpuan kepada pemantauan bunyi pesawat di kawasan perumahan berkepadatan rendah iaitu di Taman Udara, Butterworth, Pulau Pinang kerana ia terletak kurang daripada tiga kilometer dari lapangan terbang tentera dan dengan itu apa-apa aktiviti yang berkaitan dengan kegiatan pesawat boleh terus didengar. Pengukuran bunyi telah dijalankan untuk pemantauan selama 12 jam pada waktu siang iaitu dari 7:00 pagi sehingga 10:00 malam dengan menggunakan ketepatan meter pengukur bunyi kelas pertama untuk mendapatkan paras bunyi (LAeq), LMAX, Lmin, L10, L50 dan L90. Setiap satu daripada 13 titik persampelan yang mempunyai ciri-ciri yang berbeza telah diambil selama sejam (meter paras bunyi merekodkan setiap sesaat tahap bunyi) di kawasan kajian. Nilai LAeq yang diperolehi daripada pengukuran bunyi alam sekitar di Taman Udara perlu dianalisis secara deskriptif dan statistik. Kawasan titik persampelan yang berbeza mempunyai ciri-ciri yang berbeza, oleh itu, had pendedahan bunyi bising yang berbeza akan diperolehi. Menurut Jabatan Alam Sekitar (2007), kawasan kediaman berkepadatan rendah adalah kawasan yang mempunyai kurang daripada 75 orang seekar. Hasil kajian mendedahkan bahawa purata tahap keseluruhan bunyi (LAeq) yang diperolehi di kawasan perumahan berkepadatan rendah adalah dalam lingkungan 51.9 hingga 77.9 dB (A) iaitu melebihi paras bunyi maksimum yang dibenarkan (LAeq) pada waktu siang iaitu 50 dB (A) mengikut Garis Panduan Penggunaan Tanah untuk Perancangan dan Pembangunan Baru Bagi Had dan Kawalan Bunyi Alam Sekitar oleh Jabatan Alam Sekitar Malaysia (DOE, 2007). Penyelidikan ini digunakan sebagai sebuah garis panduan dan rujukan bagi peraturan-peraturan untuk had bunyi yang akan dilaksanakan di Malaysia pada masa hadapan dan dengan itu bandar yang lebih mampan tanpa pencemaran bunyi akan terus dibangunkan. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The growth of development, daily activities by the community and even land, air and water transportation noises may contribute to the environmental noise problem to the community. The source of the aircraft noise in the vicinity of Royal Malaysian Air Force, Butterworth has been a major problem to the human health. Thus, this study focuses on the monitoring of aircraft noise at the low-density residential area which is Taman Udara, Butterworth, Penang as it was situated less than three kilometers from the military airport and thus any aircraft related activities can be directly heard. The noise measurement was carried out for 12 hours monitoring at the day time which is from 7.00 AM to 10.00 PM by using a precision Sound Level Meter (SLM) Class One to obtain the equivalent sound level (LAeq), Lmax, Lmin, L10, L50 and L90. Each of the 13 different characteristics of the sampling points was taken in 1 hour (the sound level meter recorded every one-second noise level) in the study area. The results of LAeq value obtained from an environmental noise measurement at Taman Udara are being analyzed descriptively and statistically. Different areas or sampling points would have different characteristics, therefore, different noise exposure limit would be obtained. According to DOE (2007), a low-density residential area is an area with less than 75 people per acre. The results revealed that the overall average noise level (LAeq) obtained at the low-density residential areas ranges from 51.9 to 77.9 dB (A) thus exceeded the exceeded the maximum permissible sound level (LAeq) which is stated at 50 dB (A) during day time according to the Planning Guidelines for Receiving Land Use for Planning and New Development for Environmental Noise Limits and Control by the Department of Environment (DOE, 2007). These research are very useful to be used as reference and guideline for future regulations on noise limit to be implemented in Malaysia and thus a more sustainable city without noise pollution will be developing.
