Di Malaysia, penjanaan elektrik adalah sektor pengeluar paling terbesar yang menyumbang kepada pelepasan karbon dioksida. Perubahan di dalam penggunaan tenaga telah mengubah jumlah pelepasan karbon dioksida lebih-lebih lagi di Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Elektrik dan Elektronik (PPKEE) di Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Sasaran utama di dalam projek ini adalah untuk mengkaji pelepasan karbon dioksida melalui sumber tenaga yang digunakan di penjanaan elektrik daripada penggunaan tenaga di PPKEE, USM pada tahun 2010 hingga 2020. Pelepeasan karbon dioksida secara keseluruhan dari tahun 2010 hingga 2020 telah diramal dengan menggunakan kaedah analisis corak (linear dan kuadratik model analisis). Berdasarkan senario yang dibuat iaitu penggunaan kuasa, penghasilan terbesar karbon dioksida di dalam pelbagai jenis bilik ditentukan oleh bilangan pengguna, jenis-jenis alatan elektrik dan perbezaan peranan bilik-bilik itu tersendiri. Lantaran itu, di dalam projek ini corak dan ramalan kos dan penggunaan elektrik di PPKEE, USM serta peratusan corak pelbagai jenis sumber tenaga di dalam penjanaan elektrik di Malaysia bermula dari tahun 2010 hingga 2020 telah diambil kira. Penggunaan sumber tenaga dari penjanaan elektrik seperti gas, arang batu, minyak dan lain-lain di Malaysia meningkat seiring dengan perningkatan permintaan elektrik. Namun begitu, sumber tenaga ini akan berkurang hingga ke hujung abad ke-21. Pencemaran alam terhasil daripada penghasilan tenaga di mana ia merupakan penyebab yang utama. Lantaran itu, jumlah bilangan pokok yang akan ditanam di PPKEE, USM turut dikira untuk mengimbangkan kembali penghasilan karbon dioksida. Berdasarkan scenario dan borang soal selidik yang telah dilakukan, kesan daripada sumber tenaga fosil terhadap alam sekitar telah dihebahkan kepada warga pelajar dan staf USM. Manakala, kesedaran masyarakat terhadap penghasilan tenaga, lebih-lebih lagi warga pelajar, staf dan lain-lain di USM juga telah dipupuk. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ In Malaysia, electricity generation is the largest emitting sector that contributes carbon dioxide (CO2) emission. Changes in the energy consumption has altered the intensity of CO2 emission from energy consumption especially in School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (SEEE), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The main goal of this project is to study the CO2 emissions by fossil fuels of electricity generation from energy consumption in SEEE, USM during 2010 to 2020. The total CO2 production from 2010 until 2020 is estimated by using trend analysis method (linear and quadratic trend model). According to power consumption scenario, the biggest generator of CO2 emissions in different rooms caused by number of users, type of electrical appliances and functionality of the room itself. Therefore, the pattern and prediction of electricity cost and consumption in SEEE, USM and percentage trend of different fuels in mix of electricity generation in Malaysia from 2016 until 2020 is considered in this project. The usage of fossil fuel sources in electricity generation such as gas, coal, oil and others in Malaysia are increasing due to electricity demand however it will be largely exhausted by the end of 21st century. One of the main causes of environmental pollutions is production of energy from fossil fuels hence in order to counter balance the CO2 production in SEEE, USM the number number of potential replant trees are calculated. Based on power scenario and questionnaires given, among the SEEE's students and staffs, the risks on the environment due to fossil fuel energy sources have been showed. Meanwhile, awareness of people especially USM’s students and staffs regarding energy production was also raised.
