BS EN 50192:1996 is a British Standard that specifies the requirements for the construction, testing, and performance of hand-held, portable, and mobile induction loop systems for assisted hearing. This standard was developed by the British Standards Institution (BSI) and is part of a series of standards related to hearing aid compatibility and telecommunications equipment.
The standard provides guidance on the design and installation of induction loop systems that provide an electromagnetic field within a defined area to enable users with hearing aids or cochlear implants to receive clear and intelligible sound signals. The standard covers the technical specifications for the loop amplifiers, the loop cable, and the magnetic field strength.
The requirements of the standard aim to ensure that induction loop systems are safe, reliable, and effective, and that they meet the needs of people with hearing impairments. The standard also provides guidelines for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the systems to ensure that they continue to provide good quality sound and are accessible to those who need them.
BS EN 50192:1996 was superseded by a newer version of the standard, BS EN 60118-4:2015, which contains updated technical requirements and recommendations for induction loop systems.
