Pada masa kini, nanokomposit polimer telah digunakan secara meluas dalam aplikasi penebatan luar voltan tinggi disebabkan prestasi elektrikal dan mekanikal yang bagus. Di samping itu, ia digunakan sangat meluas sebagai penebatan luar elektrik. Walau bagaimanapun, bahan-bahan ini akan terhakis disebabkan oleh kesan alam sekitar seperti UV, suhu, kelembapan dan hujan dan lain-lain Oleh itu, banyak penyelidikan telah dijalankan mengenai penebat polimer terutamanya SiR/EPDM. Walaupun kajian mengenai SiR/EPDM dengan pelbagai pengisi telah banyak dijalankan, tetapi setakat ini tidak ada kajian melaporkan pada arus kebocoran, rintangan dan hakisan yang diakibatkan oleh pengaruh persekitaran luar. Oleh itu di dalam projek ini , siasatan dilakukan ke atas pengaruh cuaca tropika ke atas arus kebocoran serta hakisan dan rintangan SiR/EPDM dengan pengisi alumina dan tanpa pengisi alumina. 50:50 berat peratusan komposisi SiR/EPDM dipilih kerana ia memiliki sifat-sifat elektrik dan mekanikal yang seimbang manakala alumina dipilih kerana ia biasanya ditambah ke dalam campuran polimer untuk mencapai keperluan kekonduksian haba yang tinggi. Nano alumina diadunkan sebati bersama-sama SiR/EPDM untuk memperlihatkan kesan penambahan pengisi nano alumina semasa didedahkan kepada persekitaran luar ke atas arus kebocoran rintangan semasa dan juga untuk mengesan dan hakisan. Peratusan pengisi muatan bagi setiap spesimen adalah 1 Vol% alumina. Berdasarkan hasil eksperimen,ia menunjukkan penambahan 1 Vol% daripada nano pengisi alumina ke dalam adunan polimer SIR / EPDM baru dan berumur mempunyai prestasi yang lebih baik bagi masa untuk mengesan untuk mencapai 25 mm dari elektrod bawah. Cuaca juga mempengaruhi masa bermula bagi masa pengesanan. Bentuk gelombang arus bocor sampel baru terdiri daripada bentuk gelombang sinuisodal manakala sampel yang sudah terdedah terdiri daripada beberapa bentuk gelombang arus bocor yang menyebabkan hakisan permukaan. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Recently, polymeric nanocomposites are widely used for high voltage outdoor insulating application due to their ability to enhance the electrical performance and mechanical performances. In addition, they are used very extensively as outdoor electrical insulation however these materials will degrade due to environmental effect such as UV, temperature, humidity and rain etc. Thus, much research has been conducted in polymeric insulators mainly in SiR/EPDM. Although the research on the SiR/EPDM with various filler had been carrying out a lot, so far there are no reported studies on leakage current, and resistance and erosion to tracking with influence of outdoor environment. Thus, in this project, the investigation on the influence of tropical weather on leakage current to tracking of SiR/EPDM blends with filled and unfilled alumina was carried out. 50:50 weight percentage composition of SiR/EPDM chosen because it posses balanced electrical and mechanical properties while alumina is chosen because it commonly added into other polymeric blend to achieve the requirement of high thermal conductivity. Alumina blends together with SiR/EPDM to observe the effect of addition of alumina nano filler during outdoor environment exposure on leakage current and also resistance to tracking and erosion. The percentage of filler loading only 1 Vol % of alumina. In experimental result shows the addition of 1 Vol % of alumina into new and aged SIR/EPDM polymeric blend improved the time to track to reach 25 mm from the bottom electrode. Accelerated weather also influenced earlier starting tracking time. The leakage current waveform of new samples consist of sinuisodal waveform while aged sample consist of a few pattern of discharge leakage current waveform.
