Keperluan Oksigen Kimia (COD) dan warna merupakan di antara parameter larut lesapan yang boleh mencemarkan alam sekitar. Di negara kita, kajian terhadap rawatan larut lesapan adalah terhad, terutamanya rawatan secara penjerapan. Teknik rawatan larut lesapan melalui kaedah kimia dan biologi menelan belanja yang besar dan sehingga kini masih belum terbukti boleh mencapai standard yang ditetapkan. Beberapa kajian yang telah dijalankan sebelum ini telah membuktikan bahawa kaedah olahan fizikal seperti penggunaan arang kayu dan batu kapur mampu menangani tahap pencemaran larut lesapan. Kajian yang dijalankan ini adalah berkisar kepada penggunaan campuran media zeolit dan batu kapur dalam olahan fizikal untuk menyingkirkan COD dan warna dari larut lesapan semi-aerobik di Tapak Pelupusan Pulau Burung (TPPB). Pencampuran di antara batu kapur dan zeolit menguntungkan kerana kos batu kapur adalah rendah. Ujikaji-ujikaji kelompok telah dilakukan seperti penentuan masa-masa pengoncangan dan masa pengenapan yang optimum, halaju kocakan (rpm), campuran optimum zeolit dan batu kapur, isoterma penjerapan serta penentuan mekanisma penyingkiran secara penjerapan melalui ujikaji kinetik. Dengan menggunakan masa pengoncangan dan pengenapan masing-masing selama 2 jam dengan halaju kocakan 300 rpm, keputusan ujian menunjukkan bahawa campuran zeolit dan batu kapur pada nisbah 25:15 mampu menyingkirkan sebanyak 15% COD dan 50% warna. Isoterma penjerapan Freundlich menunjukkan bahawa nilai 1/n dan kf bagi ujikaji COD masing-masing ialah 11.292 dan 2124. Nilai 1/n dan kf bagi warna pula ialah ialah -2.2232 dan 10x10-6. Penjerapan kimia berlaku dalam penyingkiran COD dan warna kerana graf yang terhasil memenuhi hukum kinetik kedua, di mana nilai R2 bagi COD dan warna adalah masing-masing 0.937 dan 0.9927. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) and color are among the main leachate parameter that may pollute the environment. There are limited studies in Malaysia on leachate treatment, especially by adsorption. Biological and chemical treatments are costly and to date no prove has been reported on their ability to achieve the standard. Previous research has indicated that physical treatments by using charcoal and limestone were capable of attenuating leachate pollution. This present research was carried to study the efficiency of physical treatment by using a mixture of both zeolites and limestone to remove color and COD in leachate generated from Pulau Burung Landfill Site (PBLS). The mixture between limestone and zeolite is advantageous as the cost of limestone is cheaper. Batch studies were conducted in laboratory to analyze the optimum shaking and settling times, shaking speed (rpm), optimum mixture of both materials (zeolites and limestone), isotherms and the adsorption mechanism. By using two hours of shaking and settling times, shaking speed of 300 rpm, the results showed that the combination of both zeolites and limestone at a mixture ratio of 25 : 15 was able to remove 15 % COD and 50 % color from leachate. Adsorption isotherm gave the values of 1/n and kf for COD as 11.292 and 2124, respectively while the values of 1/n and kf for color were -2.2232 and 10x10-6, respectively. Results also indicated that the removal of COD and color was due to chemical sorption, following the pseudo second order kinetic with R2 values for COD and color 0.937 and 0.9927, respectively.
