Tujuan utama kajian ini adalah untuk menganggarkan tempoh hayat empangan Sungai Kinta berdasarkan jumlah semasa kapasiti empangan tersebut. Objektif utama kajian ini adalah untuk menentukan jumlah endapan sepanjang tahun 2014 dan membandingkan data yang diperolehi dengan data dari Lembaga Air Perak (LAP). Sample diambil di keratan rentas sepanjang kawasan tadahan di bahagian hulu sungai dan analisis ayak telah dijalankan untuk menetukan taburah saiz zarah dan juga tekstur tanah berdasarkan Unified Soil Classification Systems (USCS). Peralatan yang digunakan semasa menjalankan kerja- kerja di tapak sungai adalah Van Veen Grab Sampler dan juga Halley Smith Sampler. Perbandingan di antara jumlah kapasiti empangan pada tahun 2006, 2013 dan 2014 akan dibincangkan. Keputusan menunjukkan bahawa terdapat pengurangan sebanyak 0.21% dari tahun 2013 hingga 2014. Sementara itu, dari tahun 2006 hingga 2013, peratus pengurangan sebanyak 7.37%, telah dicatatkan dan purata pengurangan setiap tahun adalah sebanyak 0.92%. Pengurangan dalam jumlah kapasiti empangan ini adalah disebabkan oleh peningkatan dalam jumlah mendapan yang disebabkan terdapatnya kerja-kerja pembinaan Lebuh raya Simpang Pulai ke Cameron Highland. Lokasi kawasan tadahan empangan yang hampir dengan tapak pembinaan telah mengalami tanah runtuh dan hakisan tanah. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The main purpose of this study is to estimate the useful life of reservoir of Sungai Kinta Dam based on the current volume capacity of the reservoir. The main objective of this study is to estimate the sediment yield within this year and compared with data from Perak Water Board (PWP). Bed and bedload sampling are taken at a cross section at the upstream of the Ulu Kinta catchment area. Sieve analysis was carried out to determine the particle size distribution and soil texture based on Unified Soil Classification Systems (USCS). The main equipments to carried out bed and bedload are Van Veen Grab Sampler and Halley Smith Sampler which were used to collect the sample during field work. Comparison between the reservoir capacity volume for year 2006, 2013, and 2014 were discussed. The result shows a reduction of 0.21% from 2013 to 2014. Meanwhile from 2006 until 2013, the percentage of reduction of the volume capacity is 7.37%, where the average reduction of every year is 0.92%. Reduction of the storage capacity of the reservoir is due to the increasing of sediment level which cause by construction area of Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highland highway. The location of the construction area which is near to the upstream of catchment area of the dam was undergoes landslide and soil erosion.
