STATISTICAL PROCESS CONTROL (SPC) TOOL TO RECOGNIZE UNNATURAL PATTERNS ON SPC CHARTS_Kong Sieng Kim_E3_2007_875002950_NI
Quality has become one of the most important factors for the selection of product by customers. A winning company will need to ensure a good quality in every aspect of its operation, from design to manufacturing to after sales service. This will ensure the product have a good quality and reduce the unnecessary costs of repairing faulty products. There have been many quality tools and methods developed since the start of industrial age in Europe that are used to improve the quality of the product or services. Statistical Process control, SPC is a tool to prevent defects by applying statistical methods to control the process by monitoring, controlling, and adjusting the process to ensure correct performance. Hence, SPC reduces the possibility of out of control process that produce defective products. SPC can be used to analyze the variability of the process and display the result graphically using control charts. However training is needed to enable the operator to understand the chart and carry out proper analysis of the chart to detect out of control process in real-time. Therefore a more convenient tool needs to be developed to help the operator to analysis the charts. The Tool was developed using the Excel VBA macro, which allows the user to key in the data into the software program and the tool will analyze the data to identify any out of control process. The program will be able to generate three types of control chart to help the operator to monitor the process; the three charts are X bar R chart, NP chart, and Moving Range Chart.
