Lintasan pejalan kaki hendaklah disediakan di persimpangan terutamanya persimpangan yang mempunyai isipadu pejalan kaki yang tinggi. Tujuan utama mereka bentuk isyarat pejalan kaki adalah untuk mengurangkan kelambatan pejalan kaki dan meningkatkan keselamatan ketika melintas persimpangan. Terdapat bebrapa faktor yang menyebabkan kelambatan seperti masa hijau yang pendek, faktor pejalan kaki itu sendiri dan lain-lain. Namun begitu, kajian tentang pejalan kaki adalah agak baru di Malaysia. Oleh itu, tujuan kajian ini dijalankan ialah untuk mengkaji kelakuan pejalan kaki pada kawalan isyarat pejalan kaki di Pulau Pinang dan kajian ini meliputi aspek-aaspek kelambatan pejalan kaki, masamelintas, purata kelajuan dan masa kelakuan melintas. Dengan keputusan yang diperoleh, langkah yang sesuai dapat dicadangkan supaya dapat meningkatkan lagi tahap perkhidmatan kepada pengguna jalanraya terutamanya pejalan kaki. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Pedestrian crossing should be provided at junction where pedestrian volume is very high. The principal in designing this type of traffic control system is to minimize pedestrian delay and increase pedestrian safety. There are couple of factors that cause the delay such as limiting green time for pedestrian, pedestrian factor and other. However, research on pedestrian crossing is quite new in Malaysia. Therefore, the objective of this research is to study pedestrian behavior at signalized pedestrian crossing in Penang which will give emphasis on aspect of pedestrian delay, crossing time, average speed and crossing occupation time. Thus, with the results obtained, suitable action suggested to provide a higher level of service to the road users especially pedestrian.
