Abstract BS EN 60510-2-6:1996 is a British Standard that specifies the performance requirements and testing methods for marine magnetic compasses. The standard is part of a series of standards developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) to ensure the safe and efficient operation of marine navigation equipment. The full title of the standard is "Marine navigation and radiocommunication equipment and systems - Gyro-compasses - Part 2: Performance requirements - Methods of testing - Section 6: Marine magnetic compasses for high-speed craft". This standard applies to marine magnetic compasses used on high-speed craft with a maximum speed of 40 knots or more. It provides guidance on how to test and evaluate the performance of marine magnetic compasses under different conditions, such as changes in speed, course, and sea conditions.
