Application of risk map on slope stability of Taiping, Perak

Application of risk map on slope stability of Taiping, Perak / Nur Syakinah Azman
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Rainfall is one of the factors that can cause slope instability problems in Malaysia. This study focus on the Northern part of Perak in the Taiping area where the area is one of the tourist area in Perak. From the previous records, there are some areas that are exposed to the danger of landslides. Landslides can cause property damage, killed and destroyed areas and facilities available in the area. The method used in this research involve the integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for the purpose of analyzing the stability of slopes in addition to find the relationship between the effects of rain and landslide problems that often occur in recent years. The parameter values such as rainfall data and data collected from proven site investigation reports like cohesion value, angle of friction and unit weight of soil were then inputted into the software model chosen. The results of this study are landslide hazard maps. From the study conducted that most of the areas with hill slope steeper than 30o are labelled as areas that are less stable. Overall, it can be concluded the applications of GIS model as a digital stored data format provides many opportunities to get a better result in slope instability determination. The readings that come out also are accurate results with just looking into a single map.
