Abstract BS EN 60315-7:1996 is a British Standard that specifies the electrical and mechanical requirements for fixed capacitors for use in electronic equipment. This standard was harmonized with the corresponding European standard and has the designation EN 60315-7:1995. The standard covers fixed capacitors with metallized electrodes and is applicable to both surface-mount and through-hole capacitors. It provides specifications for the following parameters: Rated voltage: The maximum voltage at which the capacitor is designed to operate continuously. Capacitance range: The range of capacitance values that the capacitor should fall within. Temperature range: The operating temperature range in which the capacitor should function properly. Capacitance tolerance: The permissible deviation from the nominal capacitance value. Insulation resistance: The minimum insulation resistance that the capacitor should have. Dissipation factor: The maximum allowed dissipation factor, which represents the energy lost in the capacitor. Endurance: The ability of the capacitor to withstand a specified number of temperature cycles and voltage stress cycles without failure. Mechanical requirements: This includes dimensions, lead spacing, and other mechanical aspects related to the capacitor.
