Dalam tempoh masa sepuluh tahun yang lalu, topik kualiti kuasa elektrikal telah berkembang dan menjadi isu utama. Masalah yang paling besar di dalam kualiti kuasa adalah pengherotan harmonik dan pengaruhnya di dalam sistem kuasa. Hal ini demikian kerana perkembangan penggunaan peralatan elektronik kuasa yang banyak di sistem kuasa AC perlu diambil berat. Oleh itu, kualiti kuasa elektrik menjadi isu utama diantara pihak utiliti dan pelanggannya dan kedua-dua pihak memberi satu falsafah untuk kualiti kuasa dan mencadangkan beberapa pembatasan piawai yang baru di peringkat antara-bangsa (IEC, EN, BS, IEEE). Oleh itu, peralatan membaiki-kuasa penting untuk pihak utiliti dan pelanggannya. Sehingga hari ini, pelbagai jenis peralatan pembatalan harmonik atau cara penyelesaian telah dicadangkan. Kebanyakannya merupakan penuras menala-pasif dan rektor bersiri dan sebagainya. Peralatan pembaharuan yang baru seperti alat memperbaiki kuasa atau penuras aktif juga memainkan peranan yang penting dalam pembaikan harmonik di dalam sistem kuasa. Projek ini dijalankan untuk mengukur paras harmonik kuasa di Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Elektrik & Elektronik dan Pusat Komputer. Kajian mengenalpasti punca harmonik yang mungkin dan ciri-cirinya juga dijalankan. Selain itu, fenomena arus neutral yang disebabkan oleh ketidak-seimbangan beban dan harmonik bernombor gandaan tiga juga dikaji. ______________________________________________________________________________________ On the past ten years, electricity power quality has grown from obscurity to a major issue. One of the most severe problems of power quality is harmonic distortion and its consequences. Particularly, the increasing penetration of power electronics-based loads (non-linear loads) is creating a growing concern for harmonic distortion in the AC power system. Thus, electricity power quality is a major issue for utilities and their customers and both parties are quickly adopting the philosophy and the limits proposed in the new international standards (IEC, EN, BS, and IEEE). Consequently power-conditioning equipment is becoming more important for electric utilities and their customers. To date, various harmonic mitigation equipment or solutions have been proposed. Most of them are tuned passive filters and series reactors. New innovative equipment such as active harmonic conditioners or active filters also plays an important role in compensating the power harmonics. This project is carried out to measure power harmonic level at School of Electrical & Electronic and Computer Centre. An investigation is carried out the possible harmonic source and it’s characteristic. The phenomena neutral currents flow in four-wire distribution system due to triplen harmonic and unbalanced loads was also investigated.
