This British Standard specifies the requirements and test methods for single-use suction catheters intended for use in the respiratory tract, primarily to remove respiratory secretions or foreign material from the airway.
It applies to suction catheters used in:
Anaesthesia
Intensive care
Emergency medical care
Routine airway management procedures
The standard covers:
Design characteristics (e.g. length, diameter, tip configuration)
Materials (biocompatibility, non-toxicity)
Mechanical properties (e.g. strength, flexibility)
Markings and colour coding
Sterility and packaging requirements
Labelling and identification
