Abstract BS EN 60835-2-6:1996 is a British Standard that specifies the procedures for the measurement of the insulation resistance and polarization index of rotating electrical machines. The standard covers machines with a rated voltage of up to 15 kV and includes guidelines for the test equipment and procedures required to measure the insulation resistance and polarization index of the machine. It also provides guidance on the interpretation and reporting of the test results. Insulation resistance and polarization index measurements are used to assess the condition of the insulation system in rotating electrical machines, such as motors and generators. These measurements can be used to identify insulation problems, such as contamination or deterioration, before they lead to failure of the machine. BS EN 60835-2-6:1996 is intended for use by engineers and technicians involved in the maintenance and testing of rotating electrical machines. It aims to ensure that insulation resistance and polarization index measurements are conducted consistently and accurately, and that the results are used to improve the reliability and safety of rotating electrical machines in operation. It is worth noting that this standard has been superseded by BS EN 60034-27-2:2015 which is the latest version of the standard.
