BS EN 60721-3-3 is a standard that covers environmental conditions at weatherprotected locations to ensure the identification of risks associated with products and test them for safety and quality assurance in weatherprotected locations.
BS EN 60721-3-3 classifies groups of environmental parameters and their severities to which products are subjected when mounted for stationary use at weatherprotected locations under use conditions, including periods of erection work, downtime, maintenance and repair.
The environmental conditions specified in BS EN 60721-3-3 are limited to those which may directly affect the performance of products. Only environmental conditions as such are considered.
Note: BS EN 60721-3-3 does not cover -
Environmental conditions directly related to fire or explosion hazards
Environmental conditions related to ionizing radiation
Microclimate within a product
Who is BS EN 60721-3-3 - Environmental conditions at weatherprotected locations for?
BS EN 60721-3-3 on environmental conditions at weatherprotected locations applies to:
Quality assurance services
Safety assurance services
Product evaluation and testing services
Environment testing laboratories
Simulation testing services
Regulatory bodies
Why should you use BS EN 60721-3-3 - Environmental conditions at weatherprotected locations?
Weatherprotected location is a location at which the product is protected from weather influences. Weatherprotected locations are locations where products may be mounted for stationary use permanently or temporarily, including land-based and offshore enclosed and sheltered locations.
BS EN 60721-3-3 provides users guidance on the classification of groups of environmental parameters and their severities, including climatic conditions, special climatic conditions, biological conditions, and mechanical conditions, allowing users to identify the risks and severities associated with each class.
BS EN 60721-3-3 also provides users guidance on the classification of climatic conditions, including parameters such as temperatures, relative humidity, absolute humidity, air pressure, solar radiation, condensation and more, enabling users to pick the appropriate class for their use case and analysis.
With obedience and compliance to BS EN 60721-3-3, users can assess the product’s stability and functioning with respect to changes in environments and develop protocols to mitigate risks associated with the environmental classes for use at weather protected locations.
