Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Aeroangkasa telah dilengkapi dengan sebuah terowong angin litar tertutup baharu yang dipasang di Makmal Terowong Angin. Sebelum suatu eksperimen sewajarnya boleh dilaksanakan menggunakan terowong angin tersebut, adalah perlu untuk mengesahkan kebolehpercayaan dan ketepatan sistem terowong angin. Hal ini meliputi sistem imbangan beban, sistem kuadran dan sistem pemerolehan data terowong angin. Oleh itu, satu uji kaji memfokuskan kepada pengukuran cirri-ciri and prestasi aerodinamik pada dua model sayap pada empat nombor Reynolds yang berbeza dari 100,000 hingga 450,000 telah dijalankan bagi mengesahkan sistem terowong angin tersebut. Keputusan uji kaji menunjukkan bahawa pengukuran untuk daya angkat yang diperoleh oleh sistem pemerolehan data terowong angin bagi model sayap simetri adalah boleh dipercayai dan perbandingan yang dibuat dengan data sedia ada serta teori menunjukkan persetujuan data yang baik. Namun, bagi model sayap lengkung, didapati bahawa sistem hanyalah munasabah dan tepat untuk nombor Reynolds, 𝑅𝑒<3×105 . Melebihi nombor Reynolds ini, sistem terowong angin untuk pengukuran daya angkat adalah tidak munasabah dan tidak tepat. Juga didapati bahawa pengukuran daya sisi dan tiga komponen momen diperoleh oleh sistem terowong angin adalah munasabah. Walau bagaimanapun, kebolehpercayaan dan ketepatan daya seret yang diukur oleh sistem terowong angin adalah tidak pasti. Adalah diyakini bahawa getaran mekanikal, kesan gangguan elektromagnet, geometri dan kemasan permukaan model mempengaruhi kebolehpercayaan dan ketepatan sistem dalam membuat pemerolehan cirri-ciri aerodinamik terutama pada pengukuran daya angkat dan daya seret. ___________________________________________________________________________________ The School of Aerospace Engineering has been equipped with a new closed circuit wind tunnel facility installed in the Wind Tunnel Laboratory. Before a proper experiment can be conducted by using the wind tunnel, it is required to validate the reliability and accuracy of the wind tunnel system. This includes the force balance system, quadrant system and data acquisition (DAQ) system of the wind tunnel. Therefore, an experimental investigation focused on measuring aerodynamic characteristics and performance on two finite wing models at four different Reynolds numbers varying from 100,000 to 450,000 was performed to validate the wind tunnel system. Results suggest that the lift force measured by the wind tunnel data acquisition system for symmetrical finite wing model is reliable and data comparison performed with the existing and theoretical data show a good data agreement. However, for the cambered finite wing model, it is found that the system is only reliable and accurate for Reynolds number, 𝑅𝑒<3×105 . Above this Reynolds number, the wind tunnel system for lift force measurement is not reliable and inaccurate. It is also found that the measurements of side force and three components of moment acquired by the wind tunnel system for both finite wing models are reliable. However, the reliability and accuracy of drag force measured by the wind tunnel system is uncertain. It is believed that the mechanical vibration, electromagnetic interference effect, model geometry and its surface finish affect the reliability and accuracy of the system in acquiring the aerodynamic characteristics especially on the lift and drag measurements.
