Keluli merupakan sejenis bahan binaan yang mempunyai daya tahan yang tinggi. Ia merupakan sejenis bahan binaan yang paling penting dalam industry pembinaan. Kekuatannya telah menghasilkan keputusan dimana keluli dapat membawa kapasiti beban yang tinggi. Antara kelebihan kegunaan besi sebagai bahan binaan termasuk sifat-sifat seperti, keupayaan untuk pengeluaran secara besar-besaran, kemudahan pemasangan, pengantian, pengubah suai, kitar semula dan mempunyai nilai bahan buangan yang lebih tinggi. Tetapi harga keluli semakin meninggi, oleh itu pengunaan optimum keluli amat dikehendaki bagi menangani pengurangan kos dan bahan. Rasuk tirus dapat mengurangkan pengunaan bahan dan pembukaan web dalam keratan keluli membolehkan laluan servis mekanikal dan elektrikal, sistem paip dan pertimbangan dari segi estetik. 108 model telah dianalisis dalam penyelidikan ini dengan mengunakan perisian LUSAS. Tujuan penyelidikan adalah untuk mendapatkan kecekapan struktur untuk rasuk tirus dengan pembukaan berbentuk bujur di bawah sifat lengkukan torsional sisi. Ubahan pemboleh termasuk saiz pembukaan, susun atur pembukaan, sudut pembukaan dan nisbah tirus. Keputusan penyelidikan adalah model 82 dengan susun atur pembukaan jenis A dengan nisbah tirus 0.3, pembukaan saiz 0.5d dan sudut putaran 45 darjah dalam arah lawan jam telah hasil sebagai model yang paling cekap. Momen lengkokan model 82 ialah 1013.08kNm dengan kecekapan sebanyak 481.26, model ini telah menunjukan penambahbaikan kecekapan sebanyak 3.17% dibanding dengan model terkawal. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Steel is a highly durable and resistance material and it is one of the most important construction available on market. It high strength to weight ratio properties in turn results in a high load carrying capacity. The advantages of usage of steel is the properties of mass production, easily assemble, replace, modify, recycle and steel has a better scrap value compared to other construction materials. However, the rise on the price of steel, hence the optimisation in steel section design is needed to overcome the issue of cost effect and material saving purpose. A tapered steel section enhanced the material saving purpose while the introduction of web opening enabled the passageway of Mechanical and Electrical services, piping and aesthetical considerations in design. In this research, a total of 108 models were modelled in LUSAS software in order to analyse the structural efficiency of a tapered steel section with ellipse shape opening under lateral torsional buckling behaviour. The variables in this study consists of the variation in size of opening, layout of opening, rotation angle of opening and the tapering ratio. Eigenvalue buckling analysis is done by using LUSAS software and the structural efficiency of each model is calculated. From the study, model 82 with Layout A, tapering ratio 0.3, opening size 0.5d and opening rotated in 45 degree anti-clockwise direction results in highest structural efficiency among the 108 models. The buckling moment of model 82 is 1013.08kNm with structural efficiency of 481.26, which shows and increase of 3.17% compared to the controlled model.
