Tujuan kajian ini adalah menentukan sifat mekanikal ferrocement berbentuk nombor lapan dan juga mengkaji perhubungan diantaranya dengan tanah. Keputusan kajian ini dapat menjelaskan kesesuaian ferrocement sebagai bahan alternatif dalam konteks pengukuhan tanah. Dua sifat mekanikal ferrocement geo-hamparan yang dikaji adalah kekuatan mampatan dan kekuatan lenturan. Perhubungan antara geo hamparan tersebut dengan tanah pula dikaji dengan ujian penarikan keluar yang menggunakan batu “ crusher run” sebagai tanah dalam ujian tersebut. Dari ujian mampatan yang tekah dijalankan, didapati kekuatan mampatan ferrocement tersebut adalah dari julat 4.81 MPa sehingga 5.77 MPa. Kekuatan mampatan ferrocement tersebut adalah dalam julat 12.02% sehingga 14.42% daripada kekuatan kiub mortar pada usia 28 hari. Disamping itu juga, ferrocement tersebut didapati dapat menampung sebanyak 4.30% sehingga 7.03% ketegangan sebelum musnah. Ujian lenturan empat beban titik pula menunjukan kekuatan lenturan ferrocement tersebut dari julat 8.81 MPa to 9.92 MPa. Ujian lenturan juga menunjukan bahawa ferocement tersebut musnah disebabkan daya tegangan. Daripada empat set ujian penarikan keluar, didapati hubungan antara daya penarikan, R dengan daya bebanan atas, Po diwakilkan dengan, R = 0.914Po + 1.86. Keputusan-keputusan ujian daripada kajian ini dibandingkan dengan keputusan kajian ke atas geo-hamparan berbentuk lapan daripada tayar terguna dan gentian kaca. Didapati geo-hamparan ferrocement mempunyai kekuatan tegangan dan daya penarikan yang rendah berbanding dengan geo-hamparan tayar terguna dan gentian kaca. ___________________________________________________________________________________ The orientation of this study is to determine the mechanical properties of ‘8’ shaped ferrocement geomat and its interaction behavior with soil. The results from this study explain the suitability of ferrocement to be used as alternative material in soil improvement realm. Two mechanical properties of the ferrocement geomat were studied, the compressive strength and the flexural strength. While, the interaction between the geomat and soil was studied by means of pull out test using crusher run as filler soil. Compressive strength test result shows that the compressive strength of the ferrocement geomat is about 4.81 MPa to 5.77 MPa which is about 12.02% to 14.42% of the 28th day strength of its mortar cube. The ferrocement geomat can sustains 4.30% to 7.03% compressive strain before failure. Four point loads flexural strength test that were done reveals that the flexural strength of the ferrocement geomat is about 8.82 MPa to 9.92 MPa, and the ferrocement fails due to tension. Four sets of pull out tests for single arrangement of the geomat were done with varying overburden load. From the pull out test, it is found that the relationships between the pull out resistance force, R and the overburden pressure Po as, R = 0.914Po + 1.86. The outcomes of this study are compared to the outcomes of the previous study of ‘8’ shaped used tire and ‘8’ shaped fiberglass geomat. It is found that the ferrocement geomat having lower pull out resistance, and lower tension strength.
