Smart lighting system that can detect human presence and automatically adjust the lighting level

Smart lighting system that can detect human presence and automatically adjust the lighting level / Tang Wei Xiong
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ A smart lighting system which is able to detect the presence of human and automatically adjust the lighting level according to human activities is designed for the purpose of energy saving. In this project, an OMRON D6T-44L-06 thermal sensor is used to detect the presence of human in lecture hall and automatically adjust the intensity of light according to lecturer teaching mode. Basically there is a main light in lecture hall that need to be controlled and the intensity of front light that need to be adjusted. A LDR sensor is used to detect the presence of light from the lens of projector and dim the front light so that students are able to see the slide clearly. An Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller is used to interface between sensors and lighting and it is programmed using C programming language. A dimmer circuit is also used with microcontroller to control the intensity of a 240V, 60W lamp. PWM control method is used by the microcontroller to control the brightness of the lamp. A system methodology for system design, hardware implementation, software programming and system evaluation are followed in this project. The smart lighting system is also applicable in movie theater, conference room, meeting room and places where the lighting level needs to be controlled and adjusted in order to save energy.
