Punca variasi imej muka disebabkan pencahayaan sering lebih besar daripada ekspresi wajah dan kadang kala individu yang berbeza. Wavelet adalah alat yang hebat dalam pelbagai aplikasi kerana ia menggunakan pendekatan multi resolusi untuk menganalisis data. Berdasarkan kajian yang dilakukan ke atas wavelet, tiga kaedah peningkatan imej telah direka dalam metodologi. Semua kaedah yang dicadangkan adalah berdasarkan kepada tiga peringkat iaitu penjelmaan logaritma, penjelmaan wavelet dan wavelet berasaskan pengurangan hinggal. Kaedah pertama yang dicadangkan menggunakan peringkat pertama, kaedah kedua melaksanakan peringkat pertama dan kedua, dan akhir sekali kaedah ketiga menggunakan kesemua tiga peringkat. Dengan cara ini prestasi dan kecekapan semua tiga peringkat yang berbeza boleh dinilai dari segi meningkatkan kadar pengiktirafan muka dan meningkatkan imej untuk ia menjadi lebih menyenangkan secara visual. Prestasi dan keupayaan tiga kaedah yang dicadangkan telah diuji dengan melaksanakan tiga kaedah tersebut dengan imej pangkalan muka ‘Extended Yale Face Database B’. Kadar pengiktirafan muka boleh diketahui dengan bantuan algoritma pengiktirafan muka dikenali sebagai kaedah Eigenface berdasarkan analisis komponen utama (PCA). Daripada keputusan yang diperolehi, kaedah yang dicadangkan adalah terbukti dapat meningkatkan imej muka dari segi pencahayaan dengan berkesan. ___________________________________________________________________________________ The variation cause by illumination in face images is often greater than pose, facial expression and sometimes even different individuals. Wavelet provides a multiresolution approaches to analyse data thus it is a great tool in a wide range of applications. In order to validate the usefulness of wavelet in solving illumination variation three methods of face image enhancement by using wavelet are improvised. Based on the research done on wavelet, the three face image enhancement methods are devised in the methodology. All of the proposed methods are based on three stages namely the logarithm transform, wavelet transform and wavelet based image denoising. The first proposed method utilises the first stage, the second method implements the first and second stage and lastly the third method employs all the three stages. This way the performance and competency of all the three different stages can be evaluated in terms of improving face recognition rate and to enhance the image for it to be more visual pleasant. The performance and capability of the three proposed methods are tested by implementing them on the well know face images database, the Extended Yale Face Database B. The face recognition rate can then be known by the help of a face recognition algorithm known as the Eigenface method based on principal component analysis (PCA). From the result obtained, the proposed methods are proven to be able to enhance face image in terms of illumination effectively.
