Pembangunan yang pesat, perindustrian dan perubahan iklim di Malaysia boleh menyebabkan berlakunya banjir besar. Rancangan tebatan banjir adalah penting di Malaysia untuk mengendalikan situasi ini. Kajian ini dijalankan untuk pemodelan pengecilan banjir di pertemuan Sg. Air Itam dan Taman Lumba Kuda, Air Itam, Pulau Pinang. Tujuannya adalah untuk mensimulasikan analisis hidrologi untuk kawasan tadahan, menentukan kapasiti saluran yang sedia ada dan mencadangkan reka bentuk tebatan banjir. Hydrological Procedure No. 27(HP 27) digunakan untuk menentukan kadar alir puncak sesuatu kawasan tadahan dan ia akan digunakan dalam modal HEC-RAS Versi 4.0 simulasi profil permukaan air sepanjang Sg. Air Itam. Puncak kadar alir bagi Taman Lumba Kuda untuk 2,5 dan 10 tahun ARI adalah 1.64 m3/s, 2.17 m3/s, dan 2.65 m3/s, manakala bagi Sg. Air Itam 1 adalah 8.36 m3/s, 10.92 m3/s, dan 13.4 m3/s. Bagi kedua-dua kawasan tadahan, puncak kadar alir ialah 9.49 m3/s, 13.41 m3/s, dan 17.83m3/s. Daripada analisis keputusan dalam model HEC-RAS, saluran yang sedia ada gagal dan tidak cukup menampung kapasiti kadar alir air. Tambahan pula, keadaan ini akan berlaku berterusan untuk ARI 2, 5, dan 10 tahun. Oleh itu, masalah ini perlu diselesaikan secara berkesan untuk mengelakkan banjir dengan mencadangkan sistem baru untuk laluan air di Sg. Air Itam. Sistem ini dilaksanakan dengan mereka bentuk semula dan mengubahsuai saliran sehingga ia dapat menampung kapasiti kadar alir air. Akhirnya, saluran yang diubahsuai menunjukkan analisa keputusan yang memuaskan dan keberkesanan model. Laluan air yang dicadangkan mempunyai kapasiti yang cukup untuk air larian tanpa menengelamkan tebing sungai dan kadar alir air berlebihan. Akhir sekali, keratan rentas yang baru iaitu saluran yang diubah lebih berkesan bagi mengatasi masalah banjir jika dibandingkan dengan saluran sedia ada. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Rapid development, industrialization and climate change in Malaysia can cause the occurrence of major flood. Flood mitigation plan is essential in Malaysia to manage this flood situation. This study is carried out for modelling of flood attenuation at the confluence of Sg. Air Itam and Taman Lumba Kuda, Air Itam, Penang. The purpose of this study is to simulate hydrological analysis for the catchment area, to determine the capacity of existing channel and to propose flood mitigation design. Hydrological Procedure No.27 is used to determine the peak discharge of the catchment area and it will be used in HEC-RAS Version 4.0 model to simulate the water surface profile along Sg. Air Itam. The peak discharge of Taman Lumba Kuda for 2, 5, and 10 years ARI are 1.64 m3/s, 2.17 m3/s, and 2.65 m3/s meanwhile for Sg. Air Itam 1 are 8.36 m3/s, 10.92 m3/s, and 13.4 m3/s. For both of the catchments, the peak discharges are 9.49 m3/s, 13.41 m3/s , and 17.83 m3/s. From the analysis result in HEC-RAS model, the existing channel is fail and insufficient to support the capacity of the flow discharge. Furthermore, this event will continue occurs for 2 years ARI, 5 years ARI and 10 years ARI. This problem needs to solve effectively to prevent the flash flood by propose a new system for the waterways in Sg. Air Itam. This system is implemented with redesigning and modifying the channel until it can cater the capacity of the flow of water discharge for 2 years ARI, 5 years ARI and 10 years ARI. Finally the modified channel shows the satisfactory analysis result and efficiency modelling. The proposed waterway has sufficient capacity for the runoff discharge without sink the river bank and over flow of the water discharge. Lastly, the new cross section which is modified channel is more effective to overcome the flash flood event compared to the existing channel.
