BS EN 61194:1996 is a European Standard that specifies the general requirements for the performance of equipment used in terrestrial analogue and digital point-to-point radio links. The standard provides guidelines for the design, installation, and testing of radio equipment used in point-to-point communication links.
Specifically, BS EN 61194:1996 specifies the following:
Requirements for the equipment performance, including its frequency range, power output, sensitivity, and distortion
Requirements for the installation and site survey of the radio equipment, including the antenna selection, height, and alignment, and the assessment of the environmental conditions
Requirements for the measurement and evaluation of the equipment performance, including the use of test signals, measurement instruments, and evaluation criteria
Requirements for the documentation and record keeping of the equipment performance and the installation process.
The standard applies to various types of terrestrial analogue and digital point-to-point radio links, including microwave links and radio-relay links. The standard aims to ensure the quality and reliability of radio communication links and to provide a basis for the evaluation of their performance.
