Effects of nitrate and phosphate on optimization of eicosapentanoic acid (epa) and growth rate by amphora sp

Effects of nitrate and phosphate on optimization of eicosapentanoic acid (epa) and growth rate by amphora sp / Muhammad Hafiz Wan
In the present study, experiments were conducted in triplicates to investigate the effect of nitrogen source and phosphate source towards Amphora sp. growth and EPA production. The effect of nitrogen source was studied by using different concentration of KNO3 between 0.066 g/L to 0.265 g/L with the stock solution concentration at 216g/L. For phosphate source, the experiment were conducted by using different concentration of sodium dihydrogen phosphate (NaH2PO4.H2O) between 0.007g/L to 0.027 g/L with stock solution concentration at 20g/L. In this research, the biomass production and EPA content were monitored. Highest amount of biomass were obtained at 0.066 g/L which was 137.6 + 5.33 mg/L and P1.0mL/L at 83.33 + 10.09 mg/L. The production of EPA was highest when the cells were cultivated at 0.066 g/L nitrate concentration. From this study, the results showed that the EPA yield is directly proportional to the amount of biomass produced. However, the there is an irregularities in the results as the less nitrogen source concentration gives a better growth to Amphora sp. The result obtained implies that nutritional factors such as nitrogen and phosphate.
