Abstract BS EN 61071-2:1996 is a British Standard that specifies the requirements for capacitors for power electronics. This standard is part of a series of standards that covers capacitors for electrical purposes. Specifically, BS EN 61071-2:1996 applies to self-healing capacitors for AC applications with a rated voltage up to and including 1 kV, a rated frequency up to and including 100 Hz, and a reactive power capability of up to and including 10 Mvar. The standard specifies the following requirements for capacitors: General requirements, including construction, dimensions, and marking Performance requirements, including rated voltage, rated frequency, rated reactive power, and tolerance Electrical requirements, including capacitance, dissipation factor, and insulation resistance Test requirements, including type tests, routine tests, and sample tests Acceptance criteria for the test results Overall, the standard provides guidelines for the design, testing, and performance of capacitors for power electronics, ensuring that they meet specific requirements and are safe for use in electrical systems.
