Keperluan untuk mencari sumber baru alternatif bahan binaan yang mampu digunakan oleh pengguna di negara membangun dan keperluan untuk menggunakan bahan buangan dalam keadaan yang lebih selamat, telah menarik minat jurutera dan masyarakat untuk mengkaji kemungkinan penggunaan tempurung kelapa sawit dalam pembinaan. Kajian yang dijalankan adalah menyelidik tentang kekuatan dan kesesuaian tempurung kelapa sawit apabila digantikan dengan aggregate kasar. Bahan yang digunakan untuk menggantikan aggregate kasar adalah tempurung kelapa sawit. Peratusan gantian tempurung kelapa sawit adalah sebanyak 10%,20% dan 30% dan kekuatan konkrit dengan gantian tempurung kelapa sawit ini akan dibandingkan dengan konkrit kawalan. Ujian yang dijalankan adalah seperti ujian kemerosotan, ujian ketumpatan pukal, kekuatan mampatan, kekuatan lenturan, kekuatan tegangan, ujian pendedahan kepada suhu tinggi dan ujian denyutan ultrasonik. Sampel konkrit yang digunakan adalah prisma bersaiz 100x100x500 mm and kiub100x100x100 mm. Kesemua spesimen konkrit direndamkan di dalam air selama 28 hari sebelum ujian dijalankan. Keputusan ujikaji menunjukkan kekuatan mampatan konkrit 10% gentian tempurung kelapa sawit dipilih untuk digunakan bagi ujian pendedahan kepada suhu tinggi dan ujian denyutan ultrasonik. Keputusan purata ujian kekuatan mampatan bagi 28 hari yang diperolehi bagi 10% gantian tempurung kelapa sawit adalah 33.13 N/mm2 . Peningkatan peratusan 10% gantian tempurung kelapa sawit bagi 3 hari ke 28 hari adalah 44%. Keputusan ujikaji menunjukkan penggunaan 10% gentian tempurung kelapa sawit memberikan keputusan yang memuaskan dan menghampiri keputusan ujian kekuatan mampatan konkrit kawalan. Kesimpulan yang boleh dibuat ialah 10% gentian tempurung kelapa sawit boleh digunakan sebagai aggregate kasar dalam penghasilan normal konkrit. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The need of new source for alternative and affordable building materials that can be afforded by consumers in developing countries and the need to utilize industrial waste in a more safer way, has attracted the attention of engineers and public to study the possibility of utilizing oil palm kernel shell (OPKS) as one of the construction materials. This study investigated the strength and suitability replacement of oil palm kernel shell with coarse aggregate. The material used to replace coarse aggregate is oil palm kernel shell. Oil palm kernel shell replacement percentage is 10%, 20% and 30% and the strength of concrete with oil palm kernel shell replacement will be compared with the concrete control. There are few tests that are carried out such as slump test, bulk density test, compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile spliting strength, exposure to elevated temperatures test and ultrasonic pulse velocity test. The concrete samples used in this study include 100x100x500 mm prism and 100x100x100 mm cube. The concrete specimens were cured in water for 28 days before testing. The experimental results show the compressive strength of concrete for 10% of oil palm kernel shell replacement is selected to be used for burning test and ultrasonic pulse velocity test. The average results of the compressive strength test for 28 days obtained for 10% replacement of oil palm kernel shell is 33.13 N/mm². The percentage increase of 10% oil palm kernel shell replacement for 3 days to 28 days is 44%. The experimental results show that 10% replacement of oil palm kernel shell gives satisfactory results and approaching the compressive strength test results of the control concrete. It can be concluded that 10% replacement of oil palm kernel shell can be used as coarse aggregate for normal concrete.
