Kajian ini dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengkaji kelemahan sesebuah bangunan terhadap keruntuhan progresif (progressive collapse) yang disebabkan oleh beban yang luar biasa. Keruntuhan progresif berlaku apabila salah satu anggota bangunan yang menggalas beban mengalami kegagalan sekaligus merebak ke seluruh struktur bangunan. Kegagalan struktur yang kecil pada awalnya akan merebak dari satu kawasan ke satu kawasan sehingga kegagalan terkakhir atau kegagalan berkadaran besar daripada sebahagian struktur berlaku. Kajian mengenai potensi bangunan Kerangka Konkrit Tertahan Momen antara 4- dan 6-tingkat terhadap keruntuhan apabila satu tiang dialihkan dan juga dua tiang dialihkan secara serentak dilakukan. Perbandingan antara dua kod reka bentuk iaitu ‘Eurocode’ (EC) dan ‘Standard British’ (BS) juga dikaji. ‘Nonlinear static analysis’ yang juga dikenali sebagai ‘Pushover Analysis’ (POA) dan ‘nonlinear dynamic analysis’ atau ‘Incremental Dynamic Analysis’ (IDA) telah dijalankan untuk setiap model untuk menghasilkan lengkung kapasiti dan mengkaji faktor kegagalan. IDA dijalankan dengan mengaplikasikan rekod pergerakan tanah gempa bumi yang berlaku di Ranau, Sabah pada tahun 2015. Kajian mengenai keruntuhan progresif dilakukan untuk memperbaharui atau meminda garis panduan bangunan yang sedia ada untuk mengurangkan potensi keruntuhan progresif dan meningkatkan tahap perlindungan dalam penggunaan reka bentuk untuk keruntuhan progresif untuk sebarang bangunan kemudahan persekutuan. Bangunan 4-tingkat menunjukkan ia lebih terdedah kepada keruntuhan progresif berbanding bangunan 6-tingkat. Bangunan yang menggunakan kod reka bentuk British Standard menunjukkan prestasi yang lebih baik berbanding dengan bangunan yang menggunakan kod reka bentuk Eurocode. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ This dissertation aims to investigate the vulnerability of a building subjected to progressive collapse due to abnormal loads. Progressive collapse occurs when a load-bearing structural member fails thus propagating throughout the whole structure. A local failure will spread from element to element until ultimate failure or proportionally large failure of a portion of structure occurs. This study investigates the potential of 4- and 6- storey Moment Resisting Concrete Frame (MRCF) building to collapse after removing a column and simultaneously removed columns. The comparison between two design codes which are Eurocode (EC) and British Standard (BS) was also studied. Nonlinear Static Analysis also known as Pushover Analysis (POA) and Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis or Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) were performed for each model in order to obtain the capacity curve and study the damage measure. IDA was performed by taking the sample from an event of earthquake occurred in Ranau, Sabah in 2015. Progressive collapse study is being done to develop new or amend existing building guidelines to reduce the potential of progressive collapse and bring a consistent level of protection in application of progressive collapse design to federal facilities. The 4-story building showed it was more vulnerable compared to 6-storey building for. The British Standard designed building showed better performances compared to building designed based on Eurocode.
