Calibration and assessment of delays for coordinated signalised intersection

Calibration and assessment of delays for coordinated signalised intersection / Wong Keng Soon
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Delay is an important factor in the assessment of the level of service of a signalised intersection. Nowadays, traffic delay problems are manifesting in many urban city. At urban intersections consisting of two adjacent signalised intersections, heavy congestion usually occur. It is very common to see that the vehicles were usually delayed at the downstream intersection as the green time between the two signalised intersections were not optimized. This study is to investigate the relationship between the signal offset time and the delay so that a higher progression volume can be achieved. Other than that, the effects of the motorcycles stopping behaviour on the delay time were also investigated in this study. At the end of this study, the results show that longer offset time was required to achieve minimum delay when the signalised intersections are located further apart from each other.
