Serat karbon berongga yang digunakan di dalam permisahan gas boleh dibuat
melalui pelbagai polimer. Campuran diantara pelbagai jenis polimer juga memberi kesan
kepada kebolehtelapan sesuatu gas terhadap karbon dinding berongga. Di dalam kajian
ini, serat karbon berongga disediakan melalui rawatan pemanasan campuran polimer
poly(phenylene oxide), PPO dan polyethylene glycol, PEG. Kebolehtelapan gas dikaji
mengunakan cara meter aliran buih sabun. Suhu yang optimum diperoleh ialah 600°C
dan kepekatan campuran polymer PPO/PEG ialah 4.1/0.9. Pada masa ini, kebolehtelapan
gas H2, N2, O2, CH4, dan CO2 adalah 947.516 barrer, 6.618 barrer, 16.521 barrer, 4.165
barrer, dan 643.128 barrer.

Hollow fiber carbon membrane used in gas separation can be creating from
different polymer. The polymer blend concentrations and pyrolysis temperature were
crucial variables, which effect in membrane gas permeability performance. In this work
hollow fiber carbon membrane prepared from thermally treatment of polymer blend
poly(phenylene oxide), PPO and polyethylene glycol, PEG. The gas permeability onto
carbon membrane was measured by soap bubble flow meter. The optimum pyrolysis
temperature for carbon membrane was found at 600°C with polymer blend PPO/PEG
ratio of 4.1/0.9. At this point, the gas permeability of H2, N2, O2, CH4, and CO2 were
947.516 barrer, 6.618 barrer, 16.521 barrer, 4.165 barrer, and 643.128 barrer
respectively.
