Non-uniform illummination and low contrast issues are often encountered in acquired digital images. Inevitable external factor such such as irnproper lighting conditions due to the nature of the scene (rnicrcscopic or underwater) to be captured has caused the non-homogeneous brightness and loss of details in the image. Improving the non-uniform illumination issue will produce homogenous image brightness whereby the details of the image might not be preserved and existing noises. might be amplified. Thus, this project is intended to address the conflicting requirement s in enhancing these images and new optimally enhancement framework will be proposed to address and handle these issues. The overall quality ot the degradeable image will be improved by enhancing the dark region of the image without over enhancing the existing bright region whereby existing noise is kept attenuated. Meanwhile, the local contrast of the image will be enhanced to ensure details of the image are preserved. The succesfull of the proposed robust enhancement framework will ensure that this system will be applied to various applications such as medical diagnosis system and underwater surveillance system.
