A study on the purity and recovery of carbon dioxide gas from binary flue gas mixture using activated carbon palm kernel shell adsorbent in plate pressure equalized pressure swing adsorption / Noor Fadzleena Md Zain
Pelepasan gas karbon dioksida (CO2) kepada alam sekitar menyumbang kepada pemanasan gobal dan proses perubahan iklim. Untuk mengurangkan kesan pembebasan gas CO2 kepada alam sekitar, kajian ini menjelajah penggunaan bahan penjerap tempurung insirung palma teraktif (ACPKS) dalam proses plat penjerapan buaian tekanan (PSA) untuk merangkap CO2 daripada satu campuran dedua gas serombong mengandungi CO2 dan gas nitrogen (N2). CO2 merupakan spesies lebih kuat terjerap berbanding dengan gas nitrogen dalam gas serombong. Kajian titik bolos dilakukan pada bahan penjerap yang dipilih untuk tekanan sebanyak 3 bar. ACPKS terbukti bahan penjerap yang baik pada kepekatan gas CO2 yang diuji iaitu (85% CO2 dan 15% N2) sepertimana yang telah dikaji oleh beberapa penyelidik sebelum ini. Masa titik bolos kemudiannya diterima ke dalam plat PSA, prestasi bahan penjerap dalam proses itu telah disiasat dan seterusnya membandingkan prestasi tekanan yang dikenakan terhadap plat PSA. Keputusan yang didapati ialah, tekanan pada 3 bar menunjukkan prestasi yang baik apabila dibandingkan dengan 1 dan 2 bar. Kemudian, prestasi plat PSA pada tekanan 3 bar dibandingkan dengan silinder PSA bedasarkan kajian yang telah dilakukan sebelum ini pada tekanan yang sama. Keputusan yang didapati ialah silinder PSA menunjukkan prestasi yang tertinggi dalam ketulenan gas CO2 sebanyak 85.42% dan pemulihan gas N2 sebanyak 44.58% apabila dibandingkan dengan plat PSA. Manakala, plat PSA menunjukkan prestasti yang tertinggi dalam ketulanan untuk gas N2 sebanyak 99.75% dan pemulihan untuk gas CO2 sebanyak 81.37% yang boleh digunakan untuk pemulihan alam sekitar. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The release of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) to the environment contributes to the warming of the global and the process of climate change. To reduce the effect of CO2 emissions into the environment, this study explores the use of Activated Palm Kernel Shell (ACPKS) in the process of Plate Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) for CO2 capture from flue gas deduction containing CO2 and nitrogen gas (N2). CO2 is a more powerful species absorbed than nitrogen gas in flue gas. A breakthrough study was performed on the adsorbent selected for pressure of 3 bar. ACPKS proved to be a good adsorbent material at CO2 concentrations tested (85% CO2 and 15% N2) from several researchers from different studies . The breakthrough study is then received into the plate PSA, the performance of the adsorbent in the process has been investigated and thus compares the pressures performance imposed on the PSA plate. The result is that the pressure at 3 bar shows good performance when compared to 1 and 2 bar. Then, PSA plate performance at 3 bar pressure compared to the PSA cylinder at the same adsorption pressure. The results found that the PSA cylinder showed the highest performance in CO2 gas purity of 85.42% and N2 gas recovery of 44.58% when compared to plate PSA. Meanwhile, plate PSA shows the highest performance for N2 purity which 99.75% and 81.37% recovery for CO2 gas that can be used for environmental rehabilitation.
