Sistem bekalan air adalah sistem kejuruteraan komponen hidrologi dan hidraulik yang menyediakan bekalan air dengan menyampaikan cecair dari satu lokasi ke lokasi lain. Salah satu kaedah dalam menyampaikan pengumpulan air mentah air bawah tanah daripada akuifer bawah tanah untuk kemudahan pembersihan air adalah dengan menggunakan paip air bawah tanah. Kaca Plastik Bertetulang (GRP) paip digunakan untuk menyampaikan pengumulan air mentah bawah tanah ke kemudahan pembersihan kira-kira 8 km panjang, bagi Projek Bekalan Air Merbau Chondong. Paip GRP telah dipilih selain daripada paip konvensional yang lain sebagai inovasi kepada projek paip yang lain di Malaysia. Pemilihan paip GRP bagi projek ini berasaskan banyak faktor. Walau bagaimanapun, kajian ini memberi tumpuan kepada tempoh pemasangan, kos dan rintangan kakisan yang mebawa kepada kos penyelenggaraan yang rendah. Tempoh yang lebih cepat bagi pemasangan plumbum GRP membawa kepada pengurangan kerja-kerja teknikal, pengunaan mesin dan jentera, dan pekerja. Hal ini dapat megurangkan kos keseluruhan projek. Selain itu, ketahanan kakisan yang tinggi membawa kepada kos penyelenggaraan yang rendah bagi jangka hayat paip tersebut. Lawatan tapak, sesi temubual dengan pakar, pengumpulan data dan pembacaan telah dijalankan bagi mendapatkan hasil yang terbaik bagi kajian ini. Kebaikan dan keburukan serta kajian kes yang berkaitan telah dianalisis untuk kegunaan masa depan. Kajian kes ini boleh membantu dengan menyediakan rujukan dan cadangan untuk projek paip yang akan datang dalam industri perpaipan tempatan.

A water supply system is a system of engineered hydrologic and hydraulic components which provide water supply by conveying fluids from one location to another. One of the methods in conveying raw water collection of groundwater from underground aquifer to water purification facilities is by using underground water pipes. Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) pipe is used for conveying underground raw water collection to the purification facilities about 8 km in length for Merbau Chondong Water Supply Project. GRP pipe has been selected from other conventional pipes used as an invention project to others pipe project in Malaysia industry. The selection of GRP pipe for that project was based on many factors. However, this study is focussed on period installation, costs and its corrosive resistance which lead to low maintenance costs. The faster time installation period of GRP leads to less technical works, machineries used and main powers, hence minimizing the overall project costs. Besides, the high corrosive resistance brings to low maintenance costs of pipe’s life span. Site visits, interview sessions with experts, data collection and literature reviews were conducted to get the best results and analysis of the case study. The advantages and disadvantages and other related case studies were analysed for future use. This case study could help by providing reference and recommendations to the coming pipe project in the local industry.
