BS EN 60598-2-6 specifies requirements for luminaire with built-in transformers or convertors for filament lamps, with supply voltages and output voltages not exceeding:
1 000 V for class I and class II luminaires and
250 V for class 0 luminaires

This British Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CPL/34 and is the English language version of EN 60598Luminaires — Part 2: Particular requirements — Section 6:1994 Luminaires with built-in transformers or converters for filament lamps including its amendment A1:1997, published by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC). It is identical with IEC 598‑2‑6:1994, second edition, including Amendment 1:1996, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
This British Standard is to be read in conjunction with BS EN 60598‑1:1993Luminaires Part 1: General requirements and tests, which it supplements or modifies. The many references to Part 1 should be read as references to BS EN 60598‑1 which is the English language version of EN 60598‑1 which was derived from IEC 598‑1:1992 edition 3.
The foreword of the EN (HD) makes reference to the “date of withdrawal”, dow, of the relevant national standard. In this case the relevant national standard is BS 4533‑102.6:1990 which will be withdrawn on 1 July 1995. Certificates and marks will not be awarded after this date with respect to the withdrawn British Standard. However such certificates and marks, already awarded, may continue to apply to production until 1 July 2000.
Analogous provisions obtain in respect of Amendment No. 1, for which the dow is 1997-09-01 and the expiry date for current approvals is 2002-09-01.
Product certification. Users of this British Standard are advised to consider the desirability of third party certification of product conformity with this British Standard based on testing and continuing surveillance, which may be coupled with assessment of a supplier’s quality systems against the appropriate Part of BS EN ISO 90001).
