Influence of vacuum assisted resin infusion on the physical and mechanical properties of natural fibre reinforced composite (NFCs) / Vignaraja Selvarajah
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ This research explores the influence of vacuum assisted resin infusion on the physical and mechanical properties of Natural Fibre Reinforced Composite. The use of natural fibre composite NFCs has been increasing in industrial sector. The eco-friendly and biodegradable properties of the natural fibre composite have made the composites as one of the important composites in industry. There are many factors that are affecting directly or indirectly on the mechanical and physical property of the natural fibre composite. For this research and study, the natural fibre composite consist of flax fibre and epoxy resin was fabricated using few techniques and methods such as sequence vacuum assisted resin infusion, branching vacuum assisted resin infusion, parameter to point vacuum assisted resin in fusion, point to parameter vacuum assisted resin infusion, and wet hand lay-up. Tensile and flexural tests were conducted to determine the mechanical properties of the composites. Mechanical properties that were determined were tensile strength, flexural strength, elastic modulus, flexural modulus, stress, strain, specific tensile, specific modulus, and stress at the outer fibre. Physical properties that have been discussed in this research includes the composite density, fibre volume faction and appearance. Techniques of fabrication has some influence on those properties and those properties are very important and useful for industries that manufacture natural fibre composite. This research and study have been conducted to investigate on how much the techniques influences the properties of the Natural Fibre Reinforced composite.
